Letter of Intent

Each school year it is necessary to send a Letter of Intent to your local school board office letting them know of your intention to homeschool your children.  This should be done two weeks before school begins, and sent certified or registered mail so that you will obtain a receipt for your letter.  Remember, do not send additional information like test scores, course work outlines, etc . The law does not require you to send any more than your child's name and age.  For homeschooling in Murray Kentucky or Calloway County, please mail your letters to the appropriate office below.

Kentucky Graduation Requirements

Kentucky High School Graduation Requirements Downloaded fresh today from the internet. I placed a few notes of interest at the top of the page. Everything below the link is directly from the KY Dept. of Educ. website. We need to become very familiar with this stuff! Section 4 (4) refers to maintaining an individual learning plan for each student. Basically this is a documented scope and sequence, course of study, etc. In order to facilitate this, simple planning charts have been very useful for me, and you can access them (PDF or Word 2003 docs) on the Home School Page of my website. www.copycatbooks.com You will find Planning Charts for Elementary, Middle, and High School years, with a filled-in sample just below the high school planning chart.

To thoroughly document each course, a Course of Study (COS) page form is attached to record all the nitty-gritty details. Copy this page for each and every high school course and edit it accordingly to easily assemble each student’s “individual learning plan”. (Eventually I plan to add the COS page form to my website, along with a filled-in sample page.) Even if your kids are not in high school yet, you might like to “practice” with these forms in earlier years to get accustomed to recording such information and simply get in the habit of documenting everything.

Also attached is a blank transcript form you are welcome to use (not yet added to my website). This form is not such a big deal... it coordinates nicely with all that information that gets recorded on the COS pages! By researching many transcripts online, I tried to compile all the best and required stuff into one form. Page 2 of the transcript does give you a list of important things to start thinking about NOW!
